Jeff VanSteenburg wins at Penn Can.
By Brian Grisel
Susquehanna, PA. The Capital Region Sprintcar Agency Inc. (CRSA) got there second show in the books Friday night at Reed Miller's and Al Wilcox's great facility of Penn Can Speedway in Susquehanna , PA. A Capacity crowd was on hand to see 2 Modified features ,Sportsman ,Late Models ,Pro Stocks , cruisers and the sprinters.
24 Teams made the tow on a very hot and humid night with the racing as hot as the temperature.
3 heats with 8 cars each were setting the pace for this steamy night as each and every driver trying their hardest to get themselves into the top 4 so they could have a draw for the feature.
The second heat showed how hard these guys were racing as one of last seasons feature winners from Penn Can ,Billy Jaycox, would get to high in turn three and put it on its wing as he went over the bank. Billy walked away fine and thrashed on his car to get it ready for the feature.
The heat wins went to the 33t of Todd Spangler from Dillsburg, PA.,Tim Damiani from Quakerstown, PA took the second, and Anthony Brennan in The Jerky Boy 91 winning the third.
The feature looked to be a great one as there were many of the hot shoes of CRSA starting in the first 5 rows. As the green fell The 3 car of Johnny Hagen would take the point and lead to the first caution on lap 3 for a spin by young Dylan Swiernik and his 7c car. As the race resumed it was heating up for the top spot as Hagen and Jeff VanSteenburg in his sharp looking TTI sprinter were mixing it up. VanSteenburg would take that top spot on lap 5 with a caution coming out on lap 6 for a crash that involved Tyler Rice ,Warren Alexson and Craig Rochelle, with all drivers walking away. Another quick caution on lap 8 would slow the pace again for the 92 of Bruno Leombruno.
The racing was great throughout the field as some of the guys who started toward the back were making there way forward. The most noticeable being Cory Gurney in his 69k ,John Matrafailos X and Brian Davis with his V8 sprinter. On the final lap of the 20 lap feature, Jeremy Quick and Johnny Hagen were side by side for the second spot when they touched coming around turn four and Hagan coming out on the short end. Both agreed it was just a racing deal. At the finish it was VanSteenburg , Quick , Spangler , Damiani and Gurney for the top five.
CRSA Feature: Jeff Van Steenburg, Jeremy Quick, Todd Spangler, Tim Damiani, Kory Gurney, Danny Ody, Brian Davis, John Matrafailo, Chuck Alessi, Dylan Swiernik, Marshall Gogg, Chad King, Billy Jaycox, Jim McCaffrey, Matt Tanner, Johnny Hagen, Anthony Brennen, Bruno Leombruno, Tyler Rice, Warren Alexson, Bruce Evans, Craig Rochelle, Johnny Leombruno

Busy Weekend for the CRSA Drivers
By Elaine Jaycox
May 27, 2008, Fonda, NY, Many of the CRSA drivers and teams found
themselves busy over the long holiday weekend. Kicking it all off the
drivers held the first annual CRSA car show in Fonda NY. Cory Gurney,
Billy Jaycox, Mark Zemcik, Warren Alexson and Mike Bush were all on hand,
showing off their mounts. Jay shipinkas DJ service did a wonderful job
spinning the music, as people stopped by to enjoy the wonderful catering
of Texs BBQ. By far the best part of the day was the opportunity to chat
with the residence and spend the beautiful day in Fonda. The Village of
Fonda and the Fonda Firemen have once again extending their hospitality to
make this event one for the books.
The highpoint of the day was the drawing of the annual fundraiser raffle,
with the grand prize of the 2008 J&J chassis and body, being purchased from
Ponchos, going to Warren Alexson and the #3 team. Warren was quite
pleased to have won the chassis, since losing his 360 car in a damaging
wreck during the 360 open at the Fonda speedway. The second place
drawing of a D&H nose wing and Top wing was won by Jeremy Quick, and the
#72 car, and the third prize of a D&H nose wing went to Chuck Alessi and
the #19 Planet Wings car.
The excitement didnt end on Saturday, as the CRSA family participated in
the annual Fonda Memorial Day Parade on Monday. The CRSA Pace truck was
featured as it towed the float carrying the # 31 car of Mike Bush. Along
with Mike, Bill Jaycox and Mark Zemcik were happily greeting the crowd,
tossing Frisbees and schedules. Lizah Tripp, Jacob Tripp, Chip Trip,
Jorden Trip, Tristen Grisel, and Cassie Shiel, joined Brian on the truck
for the parade. Leading up the CRSA submission in the parade the fans
found Stan Cheseboro, driving the CRCA Suzuki Samurai Fire safety
Vehicle. Once again the weather held out and offered a beautiful day for
the parade and the CRSA showing.
All wheels are headed to Glenridge motorsports park, this Friday May
30th, for the first race of the season. The evenings race sponsor will be
Lacko Farms of Middleburgh NY. Come to see the drivers as they get the
season off to a roaring start and support the local venue for a great

Glen Ridge Motorsports Park:CRSA Practice
The first event on the schedule took place on Saturday May 17th for the Capital Region Sprint Agency. Fifteen sprint car teams were greeted by sunny skies when they pulled into the Glen Ridge Motorsports Park pit area Saturday morning for the CRSA Media Day and open practice. The day started off with safety tech, performed by CRSA official Mike VanDusen, and weigh in. This practice was originally designed for the 2008 rookie drivers to get acquainted to the 305 C.I. beasts. Rookies in attendance were former legion car pilot, Craig Rochelle,Some might know his dad Sandy Rochelle a hotshoe with URC in his day. Dylan Swiernik, Pete Sindt, and up and coming Zachary Oconnell were also in attendance.
1. CRSA veterans, Warren Alexson, Bill Jaycox, Mark Zemcik, The Flack team cars of Chad King and Danny Ody, Chuck Alessi, Tyler Rice, Jeff Collins, and Jim McCaffrey, were also in attendance shaking their cars down in order to prepare for the season opener on Friday, May 30th at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park. Also on hand was Empire Super Sprint hot shoe Cory Sparks with his #7 JEI sprint car.
Billy Jaycox was turning some excellent laps in his #5 sprinter before his engine expired. Pete Sindt also turned some fantastic laps in his #39 JEI sprinter before his engine exploded into a ball of flames down the backstretch. Zach Oconnell put the first marks of the year in his #327 machine as he hit the front stretch wall in one of the early practice sessions on the day.
The track became very slick for the first few sessions thanks to wonderful weather conditions with temperatures in the 60's and lots of sunshine and wind. Eventually the track began to take rubber and eat tires.
Those in attendance got to witness a piece of history as the CRSA head tech official, Chip Tripp got behind the wheel of Mark Zemcik's #22 sprinter for a couple of practice sessions. Chip was all smiles after his first experience in a sprint car. Defending CRSA Champion, Chuck Alessi was on hand with the Planet Wings #19 sprinter, shaking down his car to prepare for the CRSA opener in two weeks as he prepares to defend his title.
The CRSA officials would like to thank Pete Demetraszek and the rest of the Glen Ridge Motorsports Staff for allowing the CRSA Media/Practice day to be a great success. CRSA officials would also like to thank the drivers that came and participated in the event.
Next on the CRSA schedule is a car show and Chicken BBQ on Saturday May 24th located in the Fonda Fire Department parking lot. This will be a good way for teams to meet the racing community and talk to the younger generation of race fans.

The WHISTLER is an electronic device that instantly determines the compression ratio of virtually any engine.
Using the WHISTLER is easy, just remove a spark plug and screw the WHISTLER adapter in its place. Enter the number of cylinders, CID, and temperature of the engine into the WHISTLER. Then, bring the engine to TDC and the unit will display the compression ratio to the nearest tenth of a point.
